"Gross area: 50,733 square feet.Date completed: October 2010Profile: The Upper Cumberland Regional Health Facility oversees the health departments in a 14-county region and provides regional medical specialty clinics, such as tuberculosis, women's health, HIV and genetics. The new building is the first LEED-NC Platinum project in Tennessee. It features a flexible conference room, a demonstration kitchen, seven clinic rooms, two waiting areas, a regional operations center, and office space.Energy-saving strategy: Building orientation allowed for ample use of daylight to reduce the number of light fixtures needed. A geothermal HVAC system and photovoltaic panels among other strategies reduce energy demand by 43 percent when compared to typical code requirements.
